Guest blog: What's Your Hustle? Johnny De La Cruz @MSCLT
I met Steven in college. I was one year into living in LA at the time and we connected immediately on our passion for business and creating something. We would throw ideas around consistently and even put a few to work, learning something along the way every time. He’s from South Los Angeles and I’m from Brooklyn, NY – we have very different styles and I learned a lot from working with him. In everything he did, he gave it his all, and always worked toward a higher purpose.
I thought it had come from his interest in the medical field – he had worked several medical positions throughout his life & had a real passion in biology; his focus in school. I thought it had come from his experiences in college – navigating through such a large school, meeting different people and delving into new things.
But it all made sense a little over a year ago when he talked to me about his idea for AFJA – it comes from his upbringing & connection to his culture. His Salvadorian background and upbringing in Los Angeles shaped the person he is today, and the impact he is making with AFJA speaks volumes.
I approached Steven about my idea for the #WhatsYourHustle video series shortly thereafter. I wanted to provide a platform for young entrepreneurs and go-getters to tell their story, about what lead to finding their passion and the steps they took to make it a reality. Steven embodied this in every aspect, and I am proud to present Steven’s entry into the #WhatsYourHustle series.
